Part of Silverlake's Ship collective (along with Earlimart and Irving), this co-ed four piece crafted six intense dirges for their debut EP Pikul (Dangerbird). Singer Brian Aubert's mesmerizing, androgynous falsetto sounds like Kim Deal after a pack of cigarettes. Rhythmic, dark, and awash in distorted guitars and abstract lyrics, Silversun Pickups' sprawling songs still have plenty of hooks to hold onto. Still fresh to live performances, the band brings a barelycontrolled chaos to the stage that makes the visceral energy of its recordings even more palpable. -Krissy Teegerstrom
