Sholi
Hailing from the Bay Area, Sholi is an experimental four-piece that combine haunting minor melody with the unconventional composition of an art-rock band. Singer Payam Bavafa delivers moody lyrics, while Jonathan Bafus takes listeners on an exploration of tempo with his frenetic drumming. Bassist Eric Ruud and multi-instrumentalist Greg Hagel round out the group. Sholi's given a nod to their Iranian roots with a cover of native star Googoosh, which features a B-side cover of freak-folk heroine Joanna Newsom. VERONICA YOUNG
