In only a few short years Band of Horses have released two widely received full length albums and toured through the ranks to reach their present status as one of Sub Pop's most promising new bands. Singer and songwriter Ben Bridwell's musicianship can be traced back to his earlier work in Carissa's Wierd, a band co-fronted by former Band of Horses guitarist Mat Brooke, who left the band to focus on his project Grand Archives. Their first release Any where all the Time (2006), was positively received by critics and the northwestern fan base they had built before moving to South Carolina for their 2007 release Cease to Begin. While their first release established their sound with country infused indie rock songs, and emotional epics like "the funeral", Cease to Begin shows the bands continual development of their layered melodies and increasingly intricate guitar work. -Anne Ostrowski
