From Glasgow, Scotland, The Hermit Crabs are John Ferguson (lead guitar), Melanie Whittle (guitar and vocals), Tony McDonald (drums), Mark Waudby (bass guitar), and Ali King (violin, keyboards, percussion). Melanie Whittle formed the band in January 2003 after another band that she was playing drums in was put on hold. Their first gig was at Tchai-Ovna Teahouse in the west end of Glasgow. Melanie Whittle is the sole permanent member. Current members John Ferguson joined the band in late 2004 on lead guitar and Tony McDonald joined on drums in August 2006. In 2005, Whittle was a winner of the Burnsong national songwriting competition with a song called Feel Good Factor, and in January 2007 it became the title track of their debut release, a 4 track EP on Matinee Recordings. In October 2007 Matinee released their first album, 'Saw You Dancing.'
