The pairing of Michael Tapscott and Isaac Edwards, the two elements behind Odawas, has yielded some of the most lush and serene music this side of Neil Young and Grandaddy. While mixing their acoustic guitars with effervescent keys and doubling up on vocals, the duo has ensnared a captivating and enigmatic quality completely unmatched. Their newest album, The Blue Depths, released on Jagjaguwar in early 2009 is an entrancing work. Recorded in Chicago just before the duo relocated out west to Berkeley, the album is a triumph of minimalist beauty and harmonized honesty. The ever expansive twosome have successfully fused their psychedelic roots with a soft folk accessibility that swoons and sways in surreal atmospheres all their own. CHARLIE SWANSON
